You must be at least 18 years of age to get a Victorian driving licence. Alternatively, you can apply for your Learner Permit at 16 years and start the learning process.

WHAT ARE MY NEXT STEPS?
Since you don't have a driving licence, you will need to pass all the required tests - Learner, Hazard Perception, and Drive Test.

Age 18-21

You are eligible for a P1 (Red P) probationary driving licence in Victoria.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. To qualify for the drive test, a learner must possess a permit for at least a year.
  2. A logbook or app is used to record 120 hours of driving practice, including 20 hours during the night.
  3. The Hazard Perception Test - this must be completed prior to your Driving Test and must be current - within 1 year of completing in VIC∗
  4. Successfully completing the drive test in an automatic car limits driving privileges to automatic vehicles only. However, passing the test in a manual car removes restrictions, allowing for both automatic and manual vehicles.

∗(PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU HAVE DONE A HAZARD PERCEPTION TEST IN ANOTHER STATE - YOU WILL NEED TO COMPLETE THE VICTORIA STATE HAZARD PERCEPTION TEST)
